Voudo: 7 Chief Loa: Papa Atibon Legba by Kevin Wikse

Papa Legba, open the gate ,Ago Eh!
Open the gate for me to pass Papa!
Papa Legba, open the gate for me and when I return I shall thank the Loa!

-Song to honor PapaLegba, asking with to commence the ceremony.

Papa Atibon Legba is the keeper of the crossroad between the world of spirit and the world of flesh. A kindly and greatly beloved Loa. He represents an ancient and deeply revered mystery, linked with the sun's transverse across the sky. Papa Legba serves an essential function and is typically honored before all other Loa.

Papa Atibon Lega so earned the God's trust and respect that he was granted the keys of human destiny Our Lord. Papa Atibon Legba opens and closes the door between the worlds, as well as to all human progression, based on their merit and afforded grace. Papa AtibonLegba controls the good forces of the spirit world and works to protect humanity from the bad.

His feast day is June 13th. His colors are white and red. Papa Atibon Legba loves smoking a pipe and likes candies and toasted corn. Papa Legba works very closely with Saint Anthony of Padua. Saint Anthony carrying Baby Jesus is a clue to Papa Legba's mystery of the solar transverse. Some Voudo houses recognize this same mystery in Saint Christopher, as do we, but with a different esoteric meaning.

Prayer to Saint Anthony of Padua

Oh gentle and loving St Anthony, you whose heart was ever full of human sympathy, whispers our prayer into the ears of the Infant Jesus, who loved to linger in your arms. One word from you and our prayer will be granted. Oh, speak but that word and the gratitude of our heart will ever be yours!

Amen.
